NORTHSIDE MEDIA GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN

NORTHSIDE MEDIA PROGRAM OVERVIEW

BROOKLYN MAGAZINE is a smart & stylish quarterly that celebrates the authenticity, charm, and diversity of Brooklyn culture through the people living here. At BROOKLYN MAGAZINE, interns have the opportunity to learn about journalism, editing, design, public relations, production, and more. They will also get a real-life experience of how the daily operations of an international media company.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This internship is designed for current college students who are seeking experience in online media publication and are excited to learn about the day-to-day operations of a high-volume news and culture website/platform. Tasks will include joining editorial meetings and contributing with pitches when appropriate; assisting in the design of quarterly print publications; and contributing design ideas, among other tasks.

The intern will work directly with NORTHSIDE’s Design Director to learn best practices and receive Adobe Suite training. The intern will be expected to propose and complete various graphics in support of our products, including for social, print, and digital.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Available to intern for 15 hours a week.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
  • Photo editing and manipulation skills.
  • Work well with a team, demonstrate flexibility, receive and implement feedback.
  • Strong time management and communication skills.

IMPORTANT: Applicants must meet ALL of the criteria below to be eligible

  • Interns must currently be enrolled in a college/university.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

SESSION DETAILS

  • Spring dates: February 26, 2018 - May 7, 2018
  • Interns are allowed to work a maximum of 20 hours per week.
  • Lunch stipend will be included during internship.
  • Interns will be provided with laptop for office use, the duration of the program.

BROOKLYN MAGAZINE EDITORIAL INTERN

BROOKLYN MAGAZINE is a smart & stylish quarterly that celebrates the authenticity, charm, and diversity of Brooklyn culture through the people living here. At BROOKLYN MAGAZINE, interns have the opportunity to learn about journalism, editing, design, public relations, production, and more. They will also get a real-life experience of how the daily operations of an international media company.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This internship is designed for current college students who are seeking experience in online media publication and are excited to learn about the day-to-day operations of a high-volume news and culture website/platform. Tasks will include transcribing, researching, and fact-checking. Interns will receive training on our CMS to learn the basic functions for operating the backend of the website, and will be required to assist in setting up and managing short-form articles. In some cases, they will write them.

The intern will work directly with NORTHSIDE’s Editor-In-Chief to complete a long form article on a topic of their choosing, which will be published on Brooklyn Magazine’s website at the end of the internship. An ideal candidate would be engaged with the news, up-to-date on cultural happenings, funny, and punctual, not to mention familiar with the work Brooklyn Mag produces.

BROOKLYN MAGAZINE’s Editor-in-Chief will oversee the training and learning experience of each intern and help them achieve goals throughout the session.
